The BRASCO research group is honoured and proud to have received the prestigious EURO Prize for OR for the Common Good from the EURO - The Association of European Operational Research Societies at the EURO 2022 conference in Espoo, Finland.
The research (available here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0377221721001600?via%3Dihub), presented at the conference by Andrea Tuni, aims to support vulnerable Brazilian smallholder farmers to supply food produce to schools through an institutional market, contributing to three UN Sustainable Development Goals: #1 No Poverty, #2 Zero Hunger and #10 Reduced Inequalities.
The work is a joint collaboration, which involves the following BRASCO researchers: Andrea Tuni (Politecnico di Torino, Italy), Athanasios Rentizelas (National Technical University of Athens, Greece), Maico Roris Severino (Universidade Federal de Goiás, Brazil), Helio Fuchigami (Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Brazil) and Luisa Queiroz Barbosa (Universidade Federal de Goiás, Brazil).
The BRASCO team would like to specially thank the smallholder farmers of Canudos in Goiás, Brazil. They opened the doors of their community to our research group and gave us the strongest motivation to perform our best research to help them improve their living conditions. Sometimes even research can be heart-warming. This prize is also theirs!
